British Monarchy, Marriage, Power, and Prosperity
Location: Fireside Room, Edina Senior Center (below the library)
For centuries, the British royal family has had to negotiate with Parliament and with subjects in order to remain in power. How is it that the royals have managed to ride the waves of dire poverty and animosity to cement the hold on the throne in the age of democracy and capitalism? Dr. Cynthia Curran, Professor Emerita, History, at The College of St. Benedict/St. John's University, will address the financial and public relations aspects of the British monarchy. She will reflect on what this means to British subjects and American citizens today. An Edina Reads program.
