Meet Our Board of Directors
The Edina Community Foundation is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of individuals who live and work here. These civic leaders offer diverse backgrounds in business, philanthropy, investments and community leadership.
Mamie Segall, President
Mamie is managing consultant for Cigna. She leads the teams providing strategic legal services for Cigna's pharmacy benefit management and pharmacy businesses, behavioral health and medical solutions.
Mamie has over 30 years of experience in health care public policy, business and legal leadership, including over 10 years prosecuting health care fraud and leading health law legislative policy efforts as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General.
She and her husband, Bill Sierks, live in The Heights neighborhood of Edina and have three children. She is on the Board of the MN Elder Justice Center, served on the Edina Public School's Gifted Advisory Committees, the Edina Soccer Board and has been an active school and community volunteer. Mamie is an Economics and Political Science graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Harvard Law School.
Tom Gump, Vice President
Tom Gump is a lawyer and real estate developer serving as "of counsel" with Stier Law Offices. He is President-Elect of Edina Morningside Rotary Club, which recently named him "Rotarian of the Year." He was Chair of the Community Involvement Programs Board of Directors and served on the Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota Board. He also chaired Edina's Construction Board of Appeals. Tom and his family live in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Edina.
Steven McDonald, Treasurer
Steven is the Managing Partner of Abdo Eick & Meyers LLP. He has 22 years of experience auditing local governments in Minnesota and regularly conducts client seminars on audit preparation, internal controls and GASB Statement implementation and compliance.
Steven has an accounting degree from Minot State University and lives in Minnetonka with his wife Jennifer and their three children.
Katie has served on the Edina Soccer Board and is currently the head coach for the EHS Soccer team. She has a marketing/I.T. background and very strong organizational skills. Katie is well connected in the Edina community with strong relationship across age demographics. She lives in the South Harriet Park neighborhood with her husband David and three kids.
Dr. Michele Herring
Dr. Herring is a partner at Sharpe, Dillon, Cockson & Associates, an internal medicine group. She and her husband, Andy, have raised four children in Edina. She has volunteered extensively on hospital committees, in the Edina Public Schools and at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She provides medical care to low income, uninsured patients through St. Mary's Health Clinics. The Peggy Kelly Memorial Fund maintained by ECF honors her mother, a former Edina City Council member. Her family lives in the Hilldale neighborhood.
Jim Hovland, the Mayor of Edina, has served over 20 years on the Board. He is a partner in the Edina law firm of Hovland & Rasmus and a member of the I-494 Corridor Commission and the Regional Council of Mayors. He also belongs to the Edina Morningside Rotary Club and was recognized by the Edina Chamber of Commerce as its Business Person of the Year in 2004. Jim lives with his wife LaRae, a French teacher, in West Edina. One of his two daughters lives in Edina, and his grandchildren attend Edina Public Schools..
Andy Matysik is the Managing Partner of Punch & Associates Investment Management. He is also trustee of the Karleen/Valentine scholarship trust, which offers educational support for aspiring doctors from rural areas who attend the U of M Medical School. Andy and his wife, Jennifer, are passionate about supporting mission and related work, and they live with their four children in the Country Club neighborhood.
Jeff and his wife Alley live in the Heights neighborhood of Edina with their four children. Jeff is very active in the Edina community as a member of the Rotary Club of Edina, served as club President in 2015-15 and currently serves on the board of the Edina Rotary Foundation. He also serves on the boards of the Normandale Lutheran Church Foundation and the Goal Line Club. He is a member of the Edina Chamber of Commerce and a past board member of the Southdale YMCA.
Jeff is the secretary of the Edina Community Foundation's Board of Directors.
Richard Olson has a strong record of volunteer service to the Edina community, as Chair of the Veterans Memorial Committee, as Chair of the Foundation's 4th of July Parade from 2009-2012, and in Board leadership positions for the Edina Soccer Association and Edina Basketball Association. He is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, the University of St. Thomas (M.B.A) and the William Mitchell College of Law. Richard lives in Edina's South Harriet Park neighborhood with his wife Susan and two children.
Rebecca Bell Sorensen
Rebecca is a Massachusetts native who moved to Edina a decade ago following a career in cultural public relations. She lives for building community by creating opportunities to bring people together. Mpls./St. Paul Magazine recognized her extensive involvement in charitable fundraising by describing her a "The Connector" in a 2011 cover story on Our Housewives. She and her family live in the Morningside neighborhood.
Brad is an Investment Advisor and Partner in Tradition Wealth Management, with an office in the Centennial Lakes area. With more than 25 years of experience in the financial services field, he has built lifelong, trusting relationships with individuals, corporate executives, and business owners that involve the full range of financial planning stages: wealth accumulation, wealth preservation, income creation, and wealth transfer strategies. Brad has a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Colorado and the Accredited Asset Management designation from the College for Financial Planning.
Brad resides in the Highlands neighborhood of Edina with his wife and their two children. He has been serving his local community during the past year as a founder of Art of Edina and Tradition Pass It On in the ECF Community Impact Program.
Rich Meyer became president of the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Foundation in 2007. Previously, he was vice president of organizational advancement for Minnesota Masonic Homes and director of the Children's Theatre Company's development program. He has a B.S. in political science from the University of Washington and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota.
His skills, experience, and interests include personnel and HR, nonprofit and community service, policy development, program evaluation, communications and PR, special events, fundraising and grant writing, outreach and advocacy.
Richard and his wife Annie live in Edina's Country Club neighborhood.
Kara Rios has spent more than 20 years in various accounting, finance and operations executive roles, primarily in the health care industry. In her current role as CEO of delt, LLC, Kara is leading the launch of its first product—deltPRO, which is focused on improving how candidates are assessed for fit during the interview process. She has previously served as Chair of the Lawson's Legacy Golf Tournament for Children's Hospitals and Clinics Foundation from 2004-2011. Kara has a B.S. in Accounting from the University of St. Thomas and lives in the Brookview Heights neighborhood with her daughter.
Abby Power is an experienced Management Consultant, Organizational Change Consultant, and Marketing Professional. In these roles, she has had extensive experience recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training recent undergraduate and graduate students. She recently joined College Bound Mentor, LLC, to head up its Minneapolis office. She is passionate about helping students prepare and position themselves for the future.
Abby holds a B.A. in Economics and French from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She and her husband Doug live in Edina's Sunnyslope neighborhood.
